I attended the preview of the Philadelphia Premeire of " Etched in Skin..." Half the audience never returned after intermission. As the remaining members filed out into the lobby, polite whispers could be heard expressing dismay. While the actors were clearly talented, the story itself lacked substance. Etched in Skin.... riddled in cliched issues of racial conflict, seem to perpetuate a dated stereotype of self hatred of being born black among some African-American women. It definitely delves into the psyche of the central character so much that the husband character insist she see a shrink. To describe this play a an 'incredibly dynamic story of our time,' give great understanding why Philadelphia Arts are suffering.
